Frequently Asked Questions

If you have any questions that aren't answered here – or if you just prefer human-to-human chat – feel free to get in touch with us directly.

Good question!

Soracte is a mountain near Rome. It's also us: a ragtag band of designers and writers with equal passion for history and adventure.

Inspired by those two themes, we started an online magazine and began designing a range of physical products

We hope that everything we do helps others live enjoyable and meaningful lives. You're welcome to read our full story, or find out more about what drives us

Absolutely. If your shipment goes missing, or your order is damaged when you receive it, we'll either send you a replacement or give you a full refund.

You can find our warranty policy at the bottom of this page.

Yes! If you aren't 100% satisfied with your purchase, contact us within 30 days of receipt to arrange a return. Once we've received your product, we'll give you a full refund.

As a small business, we're currently unable to cover the cost of return shipping – though it's a priority for us to begin doing so.

We offer free international shipping on all orders.

We currently ship to a range of countries:

  • USA, Canada, and Mexico
  • Most of Europe
  • Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan
  • Australia & New Zealand
  • Saudi Arabia & UAE

Because of our varied products and destinations, we use several different couriers and postal services. Our shipping page lists our shipping time estimates – but feel free to reach out directly if you have a question about your specific country.

Depending on where you live, your order may be subject to customs fees, duties, or other taxes. We recommend doing a quick check to see what your country's import rules are. Our products ship from several different locations, so feel free to contact us with any questions about where your product will ship from.

Very much so. As a young company, there's a limited amount that we can do to make a meaningful difference – but here are some steps we've taken so far:

  1. We only sell things that are intended to last a lifetime. We design journals and art prints because their sentimental value means you're likely to keep them forever. Our upcoming product, a stainless steel travel mug, is built to last for decades and save countless amounts of plastic waste in the process.

We refuse to get involved in fast fashion, even though it's often lucrative – and will never sell anything that feels unnecessary or wasteful.

  2. We don't sell our art prints with frames or mounts. This is because light objects burn far less carbon during shipping than heavy objects – and nearly everyone lives near a professional picture framer with far more customisation options than we can provide.

We do sell ready-to-frame variants (i.e. with a white border) of every print, and will always be happy to give advice about framing!

  3. We've partnered with CarbonClick, a fellow New Zealand company with a mission to offset the carbon produced by businesses and individuals alike. When you add an item to your cart, you'll be given the option of adding a small amount to your order to offset the carbon produced during manufacturing and shipping.

CarbonClick is fantastic because they genuinely care about what they do. They avoid many of the pitfalls of carbon offsetting schemes, and only support projects that lead to long-term reductions in carbon waste. They also recognise that offsetting is just one step towards true sustainability – so they advise their partners on how to take other meaningful steps, too.

In the long run, we hope to become carbon neutral. This involves a surprisingly complex and expensive external audit, so it's beyond our means right now – but obviously, it's a price worth paying for a world that our grandkids will be able to enjoy.
